I talk about this project and mission all the time. Anytime I can find someone who will listen I share the vision of what we are trying to accomplish. I get a variety of reactions, but the most common question is why? Allow me to share my passion.
For the last ten years I have been professionally involved in the special needs community, but truly it has been a lifetime journey. My mother has been the victim of several debilitating strokes, my grandmother suffered from dementia, and a couple of my siblings have various developmental delays. My entire life has revolved around people who are differently abled than I. I lived life with them and saw the successes and the struggles. I knew there was a need, and I was determined to find a way to fill the gap.
While at college pursuing my bachelors degrees I studied education and computer science, laying the foundation to build a bridge between these two areas. Discovering Things is the culmination of six years of work and my first connecting point between the two fields. Having walked alongside individuals who are differently abled, lived life with them, and studied how they learn and grow, I can funnel all my knowledge and experience as a software developer and teacher into our mission to truly help others to thrive.
